Caravan club sites in Pembrokeshire

Pembrokeshire has the only coastal national park in Britain and a run of beaches that stands comparison with anywhere in Europe. It is also a long way from everywhere, which keeps it quieter than Cornwall for the same quality of coast.

Where the sites are

The south around Tenby, Saundersfoot, Manorbier and Lydstep is the busiest cluster, with the best family beaches and the shortest drive from the M4. The St Davids peninsula — Solva, Newgale, Whitesands, Caerfai — holds the second group and is the one serious walkers head for. The north coast around Newport, Dinas Cross and Fishguard is quieter, with the Preseli hills behind it. Broad Haven and Little Haven form a smaller fourth cluster on St Brides Bay.

Getting there

The M4 ends at Pont Abraham and the A48 and A40 carry you on through Carmarthen to Haverfordwest. Both are decent single carriageway with dual sections. For the south of the county, the A477 via the Cleddau Bridge is the direct route, and the bridge tolls were abolished in April 2019.

Allow four and a half hours from Bristol and five and a half from Birmingham with a van. People consistently underestimate the run.

Local notes

The coastal lanes are the main hazard. Roads down to Newgale, Abereiddy, Martin's Haven, Bosherston and Barafundle narrow to single track between high earth banks, with few passing places and nowhere to turn an outfit. Follow the site's own written directions exactly.

Fishguard and Pembroke Dock both run ferries to Rosslare. If you are combining Wales with Ireland, book on total outfit length and note that the Fishguard sailings use the harbour at Goodwick, reached by a steep descent from the A487.

The season runs from late March to the end of October. August books out months ahead across the whole county and the Tenby sites go first. September is the pick — warm sea, empty coast path and lanes free of day traffic.
