Common questions
What is an aire, and can a caravan use one?+
An aire de service is a municipal or commercial motorhome stopover with fresh water, waste disposal and often a metered electricity point. Most are designed for self-contained motorhomes and exclude towed caravans; a minority marked aires mixtes accept them. Stays are usually capped at 24 to 72 hours and awnings, chairs and windbreaks are normally banned.
Do I need club membership to use European campsites?+
Very rarely. Unlike the British Certificated Location system, almost no European club site restricts entry to members. Federation cards such as CCI, the ACSI Club ID or a national club card buy a discount of roughly 10 to 20 per cent rather than access. Every listing here states whether membership is required.
How accurate are the prices shown?+
Each price is the figure the operator or network published on the date shown beside it. European campsites reprice every season, usually over the winter, and high-season rates can be double the low-season figure quoted. Treat them as an indication and confirm with the site before travelling.
Why are some coordinates marked approximate?+
Where an operator does not publish a site's exact position, the coordinates shown are the centre of the named town rather than the entrance. Those entries are labelled approximate on the listing. Use them to orient yourself and follow the operator's own directions for the final approach, which matters most on narrow rural access roads.
Coverage is deepest where operators publish machine-readable lists. Czechia and Slovakia are absent because neither national association publishes a retrievable member roster; we would rather show nothing than invent entries. Italian data comes from the most recent published Federcampeggio guide and some sites may have changed since.
