Common questions

Does UK caravan insurance cover me in Europe?

Most UK policies include European cover, but the number of days is capped — commonly between 30 and 90 per trip or per year. Exceeding the cap voids the claim, so check the limit against your itinerary before you sail.

Is club insurance cheaper than a broker?

Club schemes are priced for their own membership and often bundle European cover and legal expenses that a broker charges for separately. A broker tends to win on unusual risks: high-value units, self-builds, storage away from home, or a claims history.

Do I need separate breakdown cover for the caravan?

Yes in most cases. Standard vehicle breakdown cover recovers the car and leaves the caravan at the roadside. Caravan-specific or club schemes such as Red Pennant and Arrival recover the outfit together, which matters most when you are a long way from home.

What is not covered as standard?

Awnings, contents above a modest limit, and damage while the unit is being towed by someone not named on the policy are the usual gaps. European breakdown cover is frequently an add-on rather than standard, despite the marketing.
